We'd like to extend a big, big congratulations to Inspiración dancers Olena Javorska and Luis Santillian who took first place in the Chicago International Salsa competition and second place in Chicago International Bachata competition. Placing in the top three in two competitions in the same night is a significant feat. But not only are Olena and Luis great competitors and strong members of the Inspiración team, they also have given their talents to working with our youth programing. Here's to you Olena and Luis. Great job!
We would like to send out a big thanks to Rosita Ragin and Saladeen Alamin for inviting Inspiración to perform at this weekend's Global Dance Party which featured several performers from the upcoming Chicago International Salsa Congress. The venue, the Old Town School of Folk Music, was great and it was a real treat to meet several new dancers who are going to be doing it big on the Congress stage. Inspiración dancers, Olena Javorska and Luis Santillian, offered one of their two competition pieces which they will be performing at the Chicago Congress, while Cate Wood and Chris Manning performed Inspiración's latest piece, ATM. Check it out!
This weekend was bittersweet. The Senn Arts Dancers, directed by lead-educator Kelly Hume-Geremia, put on a wonderful show, and several of us participated in the yearly Senn Arts Dance auditions. So why bittersweet? It was only four years ago that Inspiración first began working with Senn Arts. It was a new program, and we helped with several aspects of its initiation, including their first dance audition. At that audition we saw everything from impressive youngsters with significant classical training to a young man who absolutely wowed us with his breakdancing improvisation. Over the years, we have worked with these young people, placing choreography and watching them grow and grow with every show.
